Rupee At 39.41 Against US Dollar

The US dollar ruled steady against the rupee at Rs 39.41/42 per dollar at the close of the Interbank Foreign Exchange (Forex) market in Mumbai on Jan 1. The rupee on Jan 1 resumed the new year at rock steady at 39.41/42 against the US currency on the back of lack of any major trigger due to Christmas celebrations. In lacklustre trade at the Interbank Foreign Exchange (Forex) market, the domestic unit resumed lower at 39.43/44 a dollar from Monday''s close of 39.41/42 per dollar.

The rupee premiums on forward dollar ended barely changed on alternate bouts of buying and selling. The benchmark six-month forward dollar premiums payable in June ended slightly lower at 30-1/2 - 32 paise from 31 - 33 paise on Monday and the far-forward maturing in December also eased to 48 - 50 paise from 49 - 51 paise previously. Meanwhile, the Reserve Bank of India fixed the reference rate for the US currency at Rs 39.42 per dollar and for the single European unit at Rs 57.51 per euro.
