Rupee At 39.34 Against US Dollar

The rupee on Jan 4 ended stronger by five paisa at 39.34/35 against the greenback on sustained exporters'' dollar sales and buoyant equity markets amid strong expectations of capital inflows in the New Year. Weak dollar overseas also had a sentimental impact on the local currency, which witnessed fairly wide movements in a range of 39.2900 and 39.3900 during the day.

In active trade at the Interbank Foreign Exchange (forex) market, the rupee resumed better at 39.38/39 a dollar and gradually surged against the dollar over Thursday''s close of 39.39/40 per dollar. Exporters and traders were unwinding dollar positions in the light of soaring crude oil prices, which hovered below 100-dollar mark in Asian trade today after breaching the symbolic level for the second day in a row on worries about tight supplies and US currency weakness..
