Canada To Spruce Up Trade With India
With an aim to boost Indo-Canadian trade relations, British Columbia on December 5 said it seeks partnership in the areas of energy, mining, education, tourism and technology with the Indian corporates. We are trying to build partnerships across a large spectrum of sectors such as energy, mining, education, life sciences, digital media, agricultural processing, tourism and technology, Premier of British Columbia Gordon Campbell told reporters here. He said Canadian companies are working closely with their Indian counterparts in fuel saving by providing lower emission buses to the Delhi Transport Corporation.
The Premier said he is keen on building joint venture with Mumbai and Punjab in the area of digital media and agricultural processing respectively. The bilateral trade in goods between the two countries reached two billion dollars last year. He said British Columbia is investing 13 billion dollars in infrastructure development and would share its expertise for developing urban infrastructure projects of India. Campbell, who met Trade and Commerce Minister Kamal Nath earlier this week, is leading a 50-member delegation of business leaders and senior representatives from educational institutes and life science companies of British Columbia. He said the province would shortly sign a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Science and Technology.
