The board of approvals (BoA) for SEZs has cleared 10 projects including an IT SEZ of Tata Consultancy Services in West Bengal and Adani group''s 1,000-hectare multi-product zone at Mundra (Gujarat). This is the first batch of SEZ clearance after the Cabinet cleared the Resettlement & Rehabilitation Policy that makes the process of land acquisition easy and transparent for companies.
The BoA also cleared biotech park SEZ by Saloni Business Park in Maharashtra, IT SEZ of Rakindo Kovai Township in Tamil Nadu, IT SEZ by Malwa IT Park in Madhya Pradesh and Free Trade Warehousing Zone SEZ by Jafza Chennai Business Parks in Tamil Nadu. It, however, deferred the proposals of DLF and Unitech as the promoters did not have land in possession. With these approvals, the number of SEZs with formal clearance now stands at 396, of which 149 have been notified. The government has so far given in-principle clearance to over 180 zones.
